Kura, What the fuck ?
To talk about breweries we can use several words, Kura or Shuzo. The Kura is historically a warehouse to store, keep or hide things that are valuable.
The kurabito are the people who work for the Kura.
being owner of a big Kura was a symbol of richness, in the past only important people could make sake because rice was like money, one could pay in rice, hence the importance of protecting it well in a Kura.

Founded in 1592, HANEDA SHUZO is one of the oldest breweries in Ōyama in the Tōhoku region of Yamagata Prefecture. In keeping with inherited traditions, they continue to meet the challenge of producing high quality sake during the harsh winter with the blizzard. Producing mainly Junmai, going for small quantity, taking a lot of time to press the sake with the traditional press （Kibune） are their special features. The younger generation has returned to the brewery and is beginning to breathe fresh life into the tradition.

Depuis de nombreuses années déjà, cette brasserie située dans le préfecture de Kanagawa a fait passer toute sa production en Junmai, et travaille en collaboration avec les fermiers locaux. Aujourd’hui, son savoir-faire a atteint sa maturité, et on la retrouve dans ses sakés. Ils sont maturés 2 à 10 ans, ce sont de vraies merveilles !

This region is known for its harsh winters and heavy snowfalls. But carrying the hope of the distant spring cherry trees bloom around the Lunar New Year in the middle of this harsh winter. Hiokizakura sakes embody this inspiration.

The year 2016 is an important date for this brewery: For the first time since the war, it is drawing a line under the past and the dark history of sake with added alcohol. This is remarkable, considering the courage and effort it takes to do so. This year they will brew only Junmai.
